Why we started
Beyond the Stigma began in Los Angeles
Beyond the Stigma was founded by two high school students who recognized that period poverty was affecting people everywhere — from classmates at their school to families and unhoused individuals in their community, and millions more around the world. Wanting to make a difference, they started with a small menstrual product drive to help those in need. What began as a student-led initiative has grown into an organization dedicated to providing free period products, promoting menstrual health education, and advocating to end the stigma surrounding menstruation. Today, we partner with schools, shelters, and community organizations to ensure that everyone has access to the products and knowledge they deserve — free of charge, always.

Our founders
Meet the Founders
Sophia Gonzalez
Sophia Gonzalez is a high school senior planning to pursue a pre-medical track in college. As a young woman, she has seen how period poverty and menstrual stigma can impact students her own age. Wanting to create real change, she co-founded Beyond the Stigma to help ensure everyone has access to free period products and accurate menstrual health education. She is passionate about making menstrual equity a reality for every student and community.
Alisyn Duarte
Alisyn Duarte is a senior in high school and the co-founder of this nonprofit dedicated to ending period poverty through education, advocacy, and access to menstrual products. After graduation, she plans to pursue a pre-med track in college, where she hopes to build the foundation for a career with a focus on improving women's health. As a young woman, Alisyn is passionate about breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation and ensuring that every girl has access to the resources and education she deserves.
